Good Digestion for the Body

Remember those times our parents told us to eat our greens? There are many reasons to that, one of them being that it helps with digestion. Of course, it is not only greens that help with that but the point here being to have good digestion. All the nutrients that our body needs for us to gain energy, for growth and development, and cell repair, all comes down to our digestive system. It is through digestion that our body breaks down food into nutrients into smaller molecules of nutrients before the blood absorbs them and carries them to cells throughout the body. These nutrients are then broken down into carbohydrates, protein, fats, and vitamins. (IBD Clinic)


Besides being tasty in pretty much every recipe that involves an apple, this fruit is packed with pectin, which is a soluble fibre. Pectin bypasses digestion in your small intestine and is then broken down by the friendly bacteria in your colon. It helps increase stool bulk and movement through your digestive tract, or simply put, it helps to resolve constipation and diarrhoea. (Healthline)

Dark Green Vegetables

Vegetables are a good source of magnesium, which can help relive constipation too by improving on the muscle contractions in the gastrointestinal tract. Broccoli is a good example. Studies have suggested that eating vegetables like broccoli, can reduce the risk of certain cancers including colon cancer. This is due to the high fibre nature of such vegetables.


Yoghurt, in essence, is fermented milk and it contains friendly bacteria known as probiotics, which are good bacteria that live in your digestive tract and can help improve digestion, keeping your gut healthy. (Healthline) As such, it is also a good source to resolve constipation and diarrhoea, which ultimately helps with weight loss and stimulates appetite.

All said and done, the digestive system basically involves several parts of the body and therefore, it’s vital to ensure that we do our part in having good digestion as it would prevent and curb many illnesses from getting to us.
